30.4 million household robots are forecast to be sold worldwide in 2020, according to the Federal Statistical Office. 16.3 million such robots were sold in 2018, resulting in an increase of 86.5%. This is shown in a new infographic from Kryptoszene.de.
As you can see in the infographic, 75% of all household robots sold are manufactured in the USA. A further 19% are produced in Asia, while a mere 6% are made in Europe.
US market leader iRobot is also displaying strong performance on the stock exchange floor. Within the last 365 days the company’s market value has increased by 49%. The Dow Jones rose by just 6.6% over the same period, while the DAX remains at almost the same level as a year ago.

Robots on the Rise
Almost one in five Germans now relies on a robot to perform household tasks. In 2014, this figure was just 7%. The number is set to rise sharply in the future, as suggested by data from Bitkom surveys. According to this, 23% of German citizens who are yet to use such an assistant could “definitely” imagine using a household robot. Another 22% could “perhaps imagine” the use of household robots.
The medical robot sector is also growing rapidly, accounting for turnovers of $6.6 billion US in 2020. This is an increase of 60.1% compared to 2018 and, as the infographic shows, this industry’s revenues are likely to rise to $12.6 billion by 2023.
Meanwhile, relative growth has been even stronger in the case of logistics robots. Sales climbed from $0.9 billion US in 2018 to $2.6 billion during the year of the corona crisis.
