83% of 18-24 year olds are using finance apps. As a new infographic from Kryptoszene.de shows, young adults are getting more and more interested in financial investing. This is reflected not least in a sharp rise in the ratio of shareholders among the demographic.
Regardless of age, 56% of adults in Germany are active on finance apps. The proportion declines for older age groups. All the same, 29% of those over 65 years of age use finance applications. This emerges from data collected in the „Statista Global Consumer Survey 2020“.
This is a relatively recent trend. In 2016, just one in ten were active on a finance app, and only 26% stated that they could theoretically imagine using such an application. Among the apps in this category, the „PayPal: Mobile Cash“ application was the most frequently downloaded in September.

Rising Demand for Shares
However, a look at Google search queries shows that the demand for finance apps reached its annual peak during the high point of the corona crisis. The Google Trend Score, indicating the relative search volume, ranked at the highest possible value of 100 at the beginning of March. The volume for the search term pair “Stocks App“ shows a similar pattern.
People are not content with just gathering information. The shift in the shareholder ratio shows that Germans are following thoughts with action. The „Aktion pro Aktie“ survey reveals that around 34% of citizens now own shares, compared to just 24% in 2017.
The shareholder ratio is highest among 45-54 year olds and 18-24 year olds, with around 39% in both cases. The proportion of new share owners was, however, significantly lower in 2017, the proportion rising by 15% over the last 3 years.
