Just 46% of Germans somewhat agree that cannabis should be legally available for adults in a regulated form. While cannabis is more and more accepted as a therapeutic treatment, Germans remain much more sceptical about legalisation than Americans, according to a new infographic from Kryptoszene.de.
Approval is particularly high among US citizens who tend to vote for the Democrats, with 83% in favour of legalisation. According to a Gallup survey, 48% of Republicans support legalisation, which is still 2% higher than in Germany.
As can be seen in the infographic, the approval rate for legalisation in the United States of America is at an all-time high. 68% of US citizens approve of decriminalisation, compared to just 51% in 2014.
Growing Awareness
It is meanwhile becoming apparent that more and more Germans are familiar with the term CBD (cannabidiol). Last year, 64% of 16 to 29-year-olds claimed to be aware of the term; in 2019, only 35% did. As a study by „Earsandeyes“ shows, a similar effect can be observed across all age groups.
While the majority of German citizens seem to remain sceptical of legalisation, the industry has been causing a furore on the stock exchange. Prices of Aphria shares, for example, have climbed 404% in the last year. Canopy Growth has gained 77.9% – all in a period over which the DAX only rose by 17.9%.
