Ordering groceries over the Internet is the latest trend, with revenues from such services projected to rise by 9.8% annually until 2024. This can be seen in a new infographic from Kryptoszene.de. As the survey also indicates, 88% of German citizens who have shopped for groceries online are satisfied with the service.
Since the outbreak of the Corona crisis, Google search traffic for the term pair „order groceries“ has increased significantly. Demand peaked in mid-March, when the relative search volume increased by 1,150% in the space of a week. But the pandemic aside, the turnovers achieved are also growing considerably.
The market share of online grocery sales in Germany is 1.4%. This compares to 0.8% in 2015. The proportion of German citizens who have shopped for groceries online rose from 5% to 24% over the period from 2007 to 2019, according to data from „Eurostat“.
Online Grocery Shopping in Vogue
The development has not gone entirely unnoticed on the stock exchange floor. In the space of a year, the price of Hello Fresh shares has risen by 229.1%. The DAX actually dropped slightly in value over the same period.
Overall, it is clear that the corona crisis has further fueled an existing trend towards ordering groceries online.
